THE INTERVIEW
In the second and final of our two interviews for the upcoming Shiva New Year's Eve bash, we interview the Shiva head honcho, Liam Daley and get his thoughts on the BIGGEST night of the year and all things Shiva.....

1: Shiva is close to its third Birthday, but we understand the Whitehouse NYE party will be your first New Year's Eve event. Is there any particular reason behind this?

Well, Shiva started off as one of the larger parties at Canvas, so our first NYE would've been after the Canvas closing parties in late November 2007 and LAST year, we had Pacha on the 20th of December. In my eyes, they were just too near to New Year's Eve to have parties so close together. I'm a firm believer in less is more! This NYE will be Shiva's only party in just under four months (Nov '09 - Feb '10). With Shiva throwing its first New Year's Eve party, I wanted to make sure I had no distractions of undertaking any smaller parties.

2: 2009 has seen Shiva introduce Disco and 80’s groove to its second room on several occasions. Are you a big Disco fan?

Yeah, I love the old stuff. I'm showing my age now! My Dad used to DJ himself back in his prime. When he retired, I went round to nick all his 80's records. I loved his collection, although I rarely played it. For New Year's, I can see myself partying in the 80's room straight after playing my House set (with Muzz Khan) downstairs!

3: And what tunes are in store for the crowd, is it all going to be ABBA and The Bee Gees?

You're having a laugh! If I played them I'd be lucky to be "Staying Alive"!! Nah, it's gonna be stuff like Chaka Khan, Encore, Bob Marley, Jocelyn Brown - even a bit of Michael Jackson and loadsa cool 80's stuff. Downstairs will be all forms of house music (old and new), Ibiza classics and big house tracks from this year - but also stretching as far back as '89!

4: For those people who have never experienced Shiva, what can they expect from New Year's Eve?

Expect an up-for-it, non-stop dancing crowd! Hands-in-the-air, and great production. Plenty of crowd-pleasing tunes and plenty of Shiva DJs trying to dance behind the decks! (Yes, I repeat, TRYING to dance! I think DJs lack basic co-ordination on the dancefloor and I'm one of them I'm afraid!)

5: What was your personal highlight of 2009?

Definitely the Get Loaded Festival on Clapham Common. Shiva had a party on the Gio Goi Bus which proved to be one of the most popular sites at the festival and even gave the big tents a run for their money! To be involved in one of the country's biggest Summer festivals was one of my fondest moments as a promoter and DJ so far...

6: What are Shiva’s plans for 2010? Will it be a return to the parties on the scale of Canvas or more intimate parties?

We have a new venue on our radar for 2010. Every year, Shiva always venture to a new club to keep things fresh and exciting. Too much of doing the same thing can turn people off and make it boring. So, all I can say for now is keep Saturday the 27th of February 2010 free in your diary! A new club with a BIG line-up for Shiva! It'll be like Canvas all over again.... ;o)

7: And finally, what are your New Year's resolutions for 2010?

To stop stressing too easily. But I doubt I'm going to stick to it!!
